Ashley Carter
Nantwich Town Football Club has pleasure in announcing the signing of 19 year old winger Ashley Carter on a two year contract.
Talks between club officials and the player were concluded last week and following agreement with the terms on offer the player signed ahead of the 4 – 0 away win over Brigg Town at the weekend in which he contributed with a brace to take his tally to 6 goals in 7 games.
Ashley was formerly a trainee with Crewe Alexandra Football Club before his move to Port Vale Football Club where he continued his football career before his release during the closed season.
Nantwich Town Director of Football Clive Jackson says of the signing:-
“We are delighted that Ashley has decided to secure his immediate future with us and further enhances our list of contract players. Despite the disappointment of his release from Port Vale, Ashley responded to our invitation for pre season training and has impressed with both his positive attitude and football ability. Nantwich Town have a policy of assisting their players where ever possible in their quest to either enter, or return to the professional game, and we will do everything we can to help Ashley with his career. Players we have assisted in entering the professional game from Nantwich Town in recent times include Simon Hackney, Matt Bailey and Wes Wilkinson. Ashley has quick feet and reads the game well and there is no doubt that with continued input from our coaches and the assistance of our physiotherapy department to improve his body strength Ashley can make an eventual return to professional football”.

Match Preview - UniBond League First Division South-Saturday 8th September 2007
Grantham Town (6th) v NANTWICH TOWN (8th) - KO 3.00pm
NANTWICH TOWN From: Rob Hackney. Paul Donnelly. Richard Smith. Ryan Dicker. Adam Beasley. Glyn Blackhurst. Wayne Teague. Ashley Carter. Nick Linford. Pavol Suhaj. Andy Kinsey. Andy Bott. Danny Griggs. Steve Davis.
‘The Dabbers’ have struck a rich vein of form of late, winning their last two league games plus FA Cup and UniBond League Challenge Cup victories ahead of their first visit to the South Kesteven Sports Stadium. Midfielders Glyn Blackhurst (3) and Ashley Carter(3) are currently ‘The Dabbers’ leading scorers whilst Pavol Suhaj, Danny Griggs, Andy Kinsey and Andy Bott have weighed in with a goal apiece. However, the joys of winning have been tempered by further injuries, this time affecting Paul Taylor (calf),Phil Parkinson (knee) Gyorgy Kiss (reoccurring hamstring) whilst goal keeper Dave Kocjak, who has stood in for Rob Hackney during his recent leg injury, is currently serving a two week ban. With Mark Fitton, Matt Blake and Jordan White still on the sidelines, the squad has performed remarkably well under the circumstances. Parkinson, Taylor and Kiss will travel at the weekend but their involvement is currently uncertain.
Meanwhile,’ The Gingerbreads’ were held to a goalless draw away to Blackstone in the FA Cup last weekend with manager John Wilkinson threatening changes before Tuesday’s replay having publicly declared his side “didn’t do enough around the field, players didn’t make the right decisions, and we gave the ball away too easily.” Grantham goal keeper Mario Ziccardi produced three excellent saves in the second half as the ‘Gingerbreads’ hung on for Tuesday’s replay against the United Counties League side. However, Grantham came good in the replay but the tie (2-1) was only prevented from going into extra time via a Blackstone own goal (Cotton) in the 26th minute. Grantham were relegated from the UniBond League Premier Division last season but manager John Wilkinson has built a virtually new squad during the closed season.
Nantwich Town head coach Steve Davis has nothing but praise for his players at the moment and says: “ Yes, we can play better but, the lads are producing some great football at the moment and over the past few games it has been good to see their confidence rise. Despite the dramatics of a penalty shoot-out against Radcliffe we were by far the better side and thoroughly deserved the win. However, it’s back to bread and butter stuff this weekend and I am under no illusions Grantham will be yet another test for us as we continue to bed down in this new league.”
