News - Loan Signing - ASHLEY WESTWOOD - 27th November 2008
Nantwich Town has pleasure in announcing the loan signing of Crewe Alexandra defender Ashley Westwood. The initial loan period is for one month. A graduate of the Alex Academy, the 18 year old versatile defender can also play as a right back, or on the right side of midfield when required. He impressed during pre-season, with the Alex management and coaches currently of the opinion that Ashley is progressing into a very competitive and reliable player.
Nantwich Director of Football Clive Jackson met recently with Dario Gradi and during the meeting, the subject of a possible loan deal for the player was discussed. Since that meeting, Crewe Alexandra and Ashley Westwood have agreed that a loan spell at a competitive semi-professional level is an option that should be considered whilst developing his career and having agreed the loan period, all parties are delighted that Ashley will be under the wing of respected head coach Steve Davis.
Additionally, Crewe have given notice to the FA of their approval of Westwood’s involvement with Nantwich Town in next weekend’s FA Trophy First Round tie against Hednesford Town. Meanwhile, Westwood goes straight into the squad for this weekend’s tough in prospect UniBond Premier Division game, in which 10th placed Nantwich face second placed Guiseley at the Nethermoor Park Stadium.

Charlie Goodlake
Nantwich Town would like to take this opportunity
to wish Charlie Goodlake a speedy recovery from a
broken leg he received whilst playing for the under
16s against Red Street on Sunday 9th November.
Charlie was 8 games in to an excellent start of
season helping the under 16s to a played 8 won 8
situation, Charlie is a tenacious player with a
fantastic engine who helps to produce goal scoring
and at times match winning situations from nothing
positions, in this time of recovery he will be sorely
missed by the squad and parents for what he
brought to Nantwich Town.

HOME GAME
Nantwich Town Youth v Macclesfield Town Youth
7:30 KO at The Weaver Stadium
Winners face an away trip to face Everton FC Youth in the 3rd round.
Nantwich Town are now the only surviving UniBond representative in the second round.
A Nantwich youth side has actually reached the Second Round of the FA Youth Cup before, in 1952 the year the Youth Cup started. Only 93 clubs entered that year (about 450 this year) so obviously the Rounds were structured differently.
In that inaugural season, Nantwich actually played Manchester United Youth in the Second Round - and lost 23-0!! The match was played at United's old training ground, The Cliff in Broughton on 4th November 1952 and a certain Duncan Edwards played for United. Unfortunately, there are no clear records to say whether the club reached the Second Round again after that - certainly they have not in recent times.
The present team has now had to play and win five games just to reach the second round.
