News - CHESHIRE FA PRIMARY SCHOOL FOOTBALL SPECTACULAR -Tuesday 20th May 2008

On Tuesday 20th May 2008 at The Weaver Stadium the Cheshire County Football Association held its FA Charter Standard Primary Schools FA Cup Mini-Soccer Festival. The event, supported by the Football Association and FA Cup sponsor E.ON was unique to Charter Standard Primary Schools and Primary Schools involved in the FA School to Club link programme. Around the country such festivals have been organized by various County FA’s to celebrate the FA’s prestigious National Club Cup competition and it’s sponsors E.ON.

The ethos of the Festival was about fun, taking part, fair play and learning. Over one hundred and ninety children from Primary Schools across Cheshire were involved in organized mini-soccer matches against each other as well as a number of other activities including fun coaching practices and skill test zones.

Simon Gerrard, County Development Manager at the Cheshire County FA was delighted with the response to the festival and said: “ I was very pleased to see so many children having the opportunity to play and enjoy football. The festival provided an opportunity for children in Years 3 & 4 to ‘taste’ football in a fun environment with the hope that they will want to further this participation into the future”.

All children who took part in the festival took home an E.ON sponsored medal and certificate.

A big thank you must go to Malbank High School and Sixth Form College who provided a group of Young Leaders to support the running of the event and also to Nantwich Town Football Club whose generosity in providing an excellent venue in which to hold the festival was sincerely appreciated. In total, it was a spectacular day which will last in the memories of the participants for a long time.

Further information about ‘Getting into Football’ can be obtained from Cheshire County FA Football Development Officer James Self on 01606 871155 or email james.self@cheshirefa.com

Club Allocations for Steps 1 to 4 of the National League System - 16/05/2008

Following recommendations by the Alliance Committee, the Club allocations for Steps 1 to 4 of the National League System for Season 2008/09 have been confirmed today by the Football Association Leagues Committee.

In arriving at these allocations it has been assumed that Halifax Town FC have been expelled from the Football Conference. This has led to Altrincham FC, Hucknall Town FC, Borehamwood FC and Slough Town FC being reprieved from relegation at their respective levels.

This situation has NOT been confirmed and may be subject to change.

The FA will obviously make every effort to advise of any subsequent changes to the Halifax Town situation. As in previous years there, there may well be other changes forced upon us and these will be dealt with accordingly.
