News - Transfer News - Thursday 27th March 2008

The final transfer window for season 2007- 2008 closed at 5pm this evening, meanwhile there has been late transfer activity at The Weaver Stadium with Christopher Clements arriving on work experience from Crewe Alexandra until the end of season, whilst Thomas Birch has signed for ‘The Dabbers’ from Blue Square North AFC Telford United. 18 year old Clements, an attacking midfielder, is in his second year as a scholar at Gresty Road. Christopher joined Crewe Alexandra at 12 years of age and to date, has scored 11 goals whilst featuring in the under 18’s side, including a brace against Premiership club Middlesborough earlier this season.

Thomas Birch is a winger, who until recently was on the books of Shrewsbury Town. Following release, the 18 year old joined AFC Telford United where he has been playing in the Central Conference League. Thomas has played six games in that particular league, but whilst Telford are content for the player to join Nantwich they have indicated their desire to retain his Blue Square North registration.

Meanwhile, Nick Farquharson has agreed to join Blue Square North club Nuneaton Borough until the end of season. Despite Nantwich official’s attempt to persuade him to remain on loan at The Weaver Stadium until the end of season, the desire to play at a higher level has taken him to the Warwickshire club. Nantwich Town would like to take this opportunity of thanking Crewe Alexandra for allowing him to complete a two month loan spell at The Weaver Stadium and also to Nick himself for the valuable contribution that he made during his loan spell.

The disappointment of Nick’s departure was hardly tempered earlier today by the news that Alsager Town utility player Dave Whittaker has decided against a move to Nantwich Town. The seven day’s notice of approach to the former Crewe Alexandra trainee expired on (Thursday 27th March) but despite showing interest during talks held earlier today, the very experienced UniBond league player then had a change of heart and has elected to remain with his current club.

However, despite those couple of setbacks on the playing front, before departing The Weaver Stadium at midday today (Thursday 27th March) the F.A Ground Grading Committee delivered some excellent news to Nantwich Town officials by awarding the club with a C grading for it’s stadium. The award of a C grade now means that The Weaver Stadium is of a standard that qualifies up to Blue Square North / South division level.

News - Loan Signing UPDATED - Friday 24th March 2008

Junior Brown has had a change of heart and decided to stay at Crewe we thank Crewe for allowing him to come had he wished to do so and respect Juniors decision and wish him all the best in his future at crewe and would be delighted if he decided to join us some time in the future.

Nantwich have served 7 day(21st March) notice of approach on Alsager Town for permission to speak with their player Dave Whittaker. A former Crewe Alexandra player, Whittaker has extensive experience of UniBond Football both in a striker’s or central defence.

News - Loan Signing- Friday 21st March 2008

The healthy long standing relationship between Nantwich Town Football Club and Crewe Alexandra has today (Friday 21st March) resulted in the league one club consenting to the loan signing of Junior Brown. Brown, a 19 year old first year professional at Gresty Road is a naturally left footed player who is equally at home in a wide midfield role, or in a striker’s role. He experienced Unibond league football earlier this season during a loan spell with Kidsgrove Athletic. The 5` 8” player possesses lightning quick pace and joins fellow Crewe Alexandra loan signing Nick Farquharson at The Weaver Stadium at a time when Nantwich are striving for promotion.

The loan period is for one month and, providing his registration with both the FA and UniBond league is cleared in time he will be available for selection for the NANTWICH TOWN v WARRINGTON TOWN league game at The Weaver Stadium on Easter Monday. Kick off 3pm.

In a further development, Nantwich have today (Friday 21st March) served 7 day’s notice of approach on Alsager Town for permission to speak with their player Dave Whittaker. A former Crewe Alexandra player, Whittaker has extensive experience of UniBond Football both in a striker’s or central defence.

Pavol Suhaj completed his five match suspension at the weekend and is available again for selection. Nick Farquharson was ruled out last weekend due to a bout of flu, but may be fit enough for a return against our Leicestershire based opponents. Meanwhile, with the arrival of Dave Walker, plus the return of ‘Pav’, competition in our forward line couldn’t have arrived at a more fortunate time as the count down to our 10 remaining league games, starting with the match against Shepshed, gets underway.

With just 7 points separating Grantham in 3rd and mid table Carlton Town, the fight for promotion play-off places gets hotter by the week. Grantham are next in action on Good Friday so, ‘The Dabbers’ need to seize the opportunity to go for maximum points against Shepshed and move into 3rd ahead of Friday night’s 7.45pm clash with Alsager Town at the Town Ground. First though, it’s ‘The Weaver Stadium’, Tuesday 7.45pm. See you there.

News Release - Dave Walker - Friday 14th March 2008

Nantwich Town Football Club are pleased to announce the signing of 24 year old striker Dave Walker. He first came to prominence on the local non league scene with Stone Dominoes and played alongside current ‘Dabbers’ players Paul Donnelly, Richard Smith and Paul Taylor. Following spells with Alsager Town, Stafford Rangers and Redditch United he left the UK for New Zealand. His recent return to North Staffordshire alerted a number of clubs but, following an invitation from head coach Steve Davis to attend Tuesday night’s home game against Retford United, the player indicated a desire to attend Thursday’s training session at The Weaver Stadium after which, he agreed personal terms. International clearance has been obtained and his registration with the UniBond League was conducted earlier today (Friday 14th March). As a result, Dave Walker goes straight into tomorrow’s squad to face Sheffield FC at The Weaver Stadium.
