Result - Crewe FA Cup - Wednesday 23rd January 7.45pm - "Reserve Match"

Nantwich Town 3 Sandbach United 2
(after extra time)

Nantwich Team 4-4-2
Adam Little (GK) Jack McKay, Danny Edge, Danny Ward, Elliot Ledwards Tristan Hamilton-Hendricks, Liam Prince, Steve McNicholl (captain), Chris Steele Tom Parkes, Steve Pattinson
Subs: Lee McAnulty, Lee Smith

A very youthful Nantwich side started brightly passing the ball well in very windy conditions and were rewarded when Steve Pattinson put them in front with a well taken strike after 15 minutes. After 25 minutes Nantwich were reduced to 10 men when Tristan Hamilton-Hendricks was shown the red card after reacting to a late tackle on the half way line when in full speed with the Sandbach player getting booked. 10 minutes before half time the scores were level when Sandbach equalised from an angled shot on right side of penalty area. The young Nantwich side were not deterred and took the lead midway through the second half when a Chris Steele corner dropped to sub Lee Smith at the far post to head the Dabbers back into the lead. With five minues remaining of normal time, Sandbach were awarded a penalty for an inocuous challenge on the edge of penalty area which was duly converted. Nantwich were still not finished and took the lead for the third time during first half of extra time when Danny Ward broke out from defence and played a slide rule pass into the path of Steve Pattinson who took the ball in his stride and finished convincingly into the bottom right hand corner. The young Dabbers continued to work tirelessly with their 10 men and ran out worthy winners at the end, much to the relief of coaches Martin Stubbs and Tony Ledwards

News - Pitch update 22 01 08

The pitch was inspected by an independent pitch expert last Friday and subject to the results of the soil samples taken we are waiting his written report and recommendations.

One immediate solution is to use an “Earthquake” machine which should enable the surface to drain and allow further remedial procedures to be taken. Unfortunately this can only be achieved if the pitch is a little drier. This procedure should allow the game to proceed on Saturday

News - Pitch update 16 01 08

The Club has arranged for an independent pitch expert to examine the pitch on Friday in order to achieve a solution to the problem of water retention which can often happen to new turf pitches. In the mean time the Club has been advised to heavily sand the badly affected areas in an attempt to ready the pitch for the forthcoming home games. The main problem is that water is retained in the top 75mm and unable to drain away due to soil compaction below this layer.

The Club would like to thank the fans for their patience and be assured that when further information is available it will be posted on the website.

FUTSAL
Futsal is an indoor version of football (soccer). Its name is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salão and the Spanish fútbol sala/de salón, which can be translated as 'indoor football'. Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. In addition each team may have 7 substitutes. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the court is delimited by lines, and not walls or boards that players can use to rebound the ball. Futsal, as it is called in many countries, is played with a smaller ball with less bounce. The emphasis is on improvisation, creativity and technique.

Other forms of indoor football games, which are played by somewhat different rules, exist and may be referred to as indoor football, five-a-side football or indoor soccer. Those games predate the formulation of official (FIFA) rules of Futsal.

Some professional players start out with Futsal to build fundamental skills. Brazilian players Ronaldinho, Robinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Juninho and many more started out playing Futsal. In Brazil, the majority of children start out with Futsal rather than association football since it requires less space and many schools in the country do not have a field to play traditional association football. There are also some notable players like Falcão who continue to play Futsal at the club level.
