News - Nathan Southern out for about 6 months - 20th April 2008
Two weeks ago, just before his 17th Birthday, Nathan was admitted to Leighton Hospital with a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) in his left shoulder. A fall on this arm some 10 days earlier is the suspected cause. The Warfarin treatment will last at least until mid October. During this time he will be unable to compete in contact sports although he will still be able to train once the arm swelling has subsided.
This setback, which affects less than 1 in a 100,000 under 18s, means Nathan will be forced to miss at least three finals and a semi final not to mention the remaining league games with his under 17/18 team and possible first team appearances in the promotion play offs.
The club will continue to provide development opportunities to Nathan during his enforced layoff from contact sports and are currently talking to an athletics coach to use this six month as an opportunity for Nathan who is a natural athlete to develop even further which will benefit him and the club on his return. In the meantime we wish Nathan all the best.

NEWS - FA North West Regional Young Leadership Event - Thurs 3rd April 2008

Following on from the success of last years first F.A North West Regional Young Leadership Event in the County of Lancashire, it was Cheshire's turn to host the event at our very own Nantwich Town's 'Weaver Stadium'. On Thursday 3rd April, 60 hand picked young leaders from the regions Counties of Cheshire, Lancashire, Liverpool, West Riding and Isle of Man took part in workshops around Coach Education, Inclusive Football and Refereeing.
The Young Leadership Event will try and cater for the demand that young volunteers experience coming into football from local FA Charter Standard Clubs like ourselves, Schools and the Step into Sport Programme. The Workshops mentioned earlier were delivered by FA Regional and National Staff and will provide the young leaders with knowledge and ideas, and empower them to make a difference in their communities. Following on from the Event the young leaders must now commit to 10 hours of voluntary work in their local football club and/or school in order to use their new skills and to further develop their leadership experience.
Nantwich Town's Head Coach Steve Davis was on hand for the day to support the Cheshire FA as part of his Football Development role, he commented “We are very proud as an FA Charter Standard Community Club that Cheshire FA chose our facility and that we have played a key part in assisting the regional counties in the North West with this type of event, we rely solely on volunteers and fully understand the importance of them and the part they play in Grass Roots Football. We as a club provide full support to these young leaders who want the opportunity to get involved in football and offer them the experience through our Community Sessions held throughout the week at the football club”.
The day was a huge success and a valuable experience to the young people involved in the event, there was some very talented kids there who will be a great asset in the future as long as they keep developing which is where we must play our part.
